A-Share Market Close Review | October 9, 2026: Afternoon Recovery Turns Indices Positive; Media Stocks Are Active
October 9, 2026 was a trading day. This article uses the closing market data at 15:00 Beijing time that day, checked at 16:04. The indices and turnover cover the Shanghai and Shenzhen markets; the numbers of advancing and declining stocks cover Shanghai, Shenzhen and the Beijing Stock Exchange.
Indices and turnover: The Shanghai Composite closed at 3813.79, up 0.05%; the Shenzhen Component closed at 12641.86, up 0.17%; and the ChiNext Index closed at 3043.33, up 0.22%. Combined turnover in Shanghai and Shenzhen was approximately RMB 1.90 trillion, about RMB 218.5 billion more than the previous trading day. The three major indices weakened in the morning, recovered in the afternoon and finished slightly higher.
Market breadth: Citing Wind statistics, The Paper reported 3294 advancing stocks, 2140 declining stocks and 131 unchanged across Shanghai, Shenzhen and the Beijing Stock Exchange. Advancers outnumbered decliners. Figures vary slightly between platforms; this article consistently uses the scope described above.
Stronger and weaker sectors: Eastmoney Choice’s closing statistics showed film and television media, precious metals, software development, gaming and retail among the leading gainers. Electronic components, wind-power equipment and electronic chemicals were relatively weak. Unverified reports and fund flows are not used to explain the price moves.
Assessment: The afternoon recovery, accompanied by more advancing than declining stocks, suggests that the day’s recovery had some breadth. Hardware and application-related sectors still diverged, and the recovery’s staying power needs to be tested in subsequent trading sessions.
The next trading day is October 12. Watch whether advancers can maintain their lead, whether weaker sectors can stabilize, and whether turnover and prices continue to move in tandem. If participation in the advance narrows or strong sectors pull back significantly, the strength of the recovery should be reassessed.
